American Long Rifle, circa 1840

Summary

The Pennsylvania or Kentucky Long Rifle was developed in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in the early 1700s, and it was famous for its long range and accuracy. Daniel Boone was perhaps the rifle's most famous user on the Kentucky frontier. This late example of the long rifle has a side or "mule-ear" hammer that was preferred by some target shooters.
