With 400 patents spanning a 50-year career, Stan Ovshinsky and his late wife Iris developed an array of energy and information-related inventions with the goal of a hydrogen-based economy. His inventions include nickel-metal hydride batteries for hybrid vehicles and flexible solar panels for use in buildings. United Solar Ovonic is a subsidiary of Energy Conversion Devices Inc., founded by Ovshinsky in 1960.
